A to Z Challenge

Confessions of an arrogant newbie. A reflection on the A2Z challenge

First of all – I made it through, and there are 1516 of us! Congratulations to all of you! I also want to thank the hosts of the A to Z challenge – you really made a great job! I was participant number 1464 on day 1 and 1183 on the last day. I can imagine that it was a lot of work to follow up on all the participants, and to leave comments on their blogs! (more…)

Z as in Zero experiences. Being a hysterical newbie

Huh huh, so I was hysterical again. It’s funny: I’m very good with infants and toddlers. I’m known as the calm adult; the one who knows what to do, the one who doesn’t freak out. A slightly different version of myself is writing this blog. I know how to care for humans, but I’ve no experiences with cats. It’s therefore scary to be responsible for Tessa and Kajsa, and I’m so grateful for all the help I get. Thank you, 3+1 cats and Punapippuri for giving me advice on my Facebook page!

So what happened today? Tessa was coughing / gagging a couple of times, and I assumed she’s dealing with a hairball (and will most likely die). (more…)

W as in Whisper. Precious moments

Some moments are so sweet that I try to be as silent as possible. That’s also why I don’t have pictures of the cutest.

I should have never gotten cats; I’m far too soft-hearted. I really wanted to be on the sofa, but Kajsa was so sweet that I just couldn’t wake her. Pay attention to the phone – she finally managed to get it for herself! (more…)

V as in Vulnerable. We’re getting to know each other

cat wakes me upSo who was at 7 am alive and in a good mood? All of us! Ok, you knew that they wouldn’t die tonight, but it’s a miracle that I was in a good mood at this time of the day. Kajsa is the best alarm I’ve ever had. Ok, sorry Mom, you were great as well, but you weren’t so cozy! She was again waking me up at 6.55 (she really has a great sense of time!), and she was so gentle! She carefully touched my face with her nose and paws, and started to pet me. She became so happy when I opened my eyes, and we cuddled for some time. This is really great – keeping my day rhythm is crucial to my mental health, and they’re really helping me to get up! (more…)

U as in United. Our first 24 hours together

Our first night

… was OK. I learnt something new: whiskers tickle! Ok, all of you knew this, but I didn’t. Tessa and / or Kajsa (I don’t know) also liked to go under my bed and scratch the mattress from below. So I woke up several times, but nobody jumped on my belly! As far as I know, I was sleeping alone in my bed. They were meowing for food at 7 am, which is great, because that’s when I’m supposed to get up. (more…)

T as in Today. My cats came home!

I was so excited when I went to the shelter today! Some drama at the shelter, because I was cleaning their ears. Oh my, they were really dirty! I’ll continue cleaning them at home, but we also need to come to the shelter once a week. They didn’t like the carriers at all, but you were right, the size was ok. Poor Tessa was meowing all the way home, Kajsa was silent. (more…)

S as in Shelter. Our time at the animal shelter

… isn’t over yet. I know, you were waiting for a different posting today, and so was I.

It’s sometimes really boring to be an adult: I could have taken Kajsa and Tessa home today, but I’ll wait another night. The vet is coming to the shelter tomorrow, and she’ll control their ears. They don’t really need a vet appointment, and it’s neither mandatory to wait for her approval. However, I thought it’d be wise to take the opportunity. I’ll take them home tomorrow, no matter what the doctor finds, but it had been stupid to rush now. (more…)

R as in Ready. The last preparations for my rescue cats

Yeah! I’ve catified the first floor, so I’m ready to take my cats home tomorrow!

Only bad news: the shelter didn’t call me today. When I adopted my girls, they promised to call me when I can get them. The shelter assumed that they’d be ready on April 21st. I’ve been waiting for 4 weeks (!) now, and I really hope that we can finally live together. The shelter is closed for visitors on Mondays and Tuesdays, so my countdown ends on April 22nd. However, the staff has mentioned several times that I can get them this week, so I hope that this is the reason they didn’t call me today.

My last days were crazy and I got a lot of things done! (more…)
